Server Rack Builder

The Server Rack Builder brings complete rack planning into Matrix42. Racks are drawn to scale with front and rear view, devices are placed by drag & drop from a palette fed by your Matrix42 assets, and colour-coded categories keep every rack readable at a glance. Finished layouts can be exported as PNG or SVG for your data-centre documentation – no external tools, no duplicate data.

Description

The Server Rack Builder brings complete rack planning into Matrix42. Each rack is rendered to scale with front and rear view, including rails, mounting holes and unit numbering. Devices are placed by drag & drop from a palette that lists your existing Matrix42 assets, so every rack unit stays linked to the asset it represents. Colour-coded categories, live utilisation and PNG/SVG export turn your racks into documentation that is always up to date – directly inside your asset management.

Core Features

  1. Scale-accurate rack visualisation: Front and rear view of every rack, drawn to scale with rails, mounting holes and U-numbering – configurable rack height, zoom and light/dark theme included.
  2. Drag & drop planning: Drag assets from the device palette onto the rack, draw across empty slots to create devices, move and resize them in whole rack units – with full undo/redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y).
  3. Asset integration: The device palette is fed by your Matrix42 assets. Each placed device remains linked to its asset, and the category (icon and colour) is derived automatically from the asset type.
  4. Colour-coded categories: Eleven predefined categories – from server, switch, router and storage to firewall, KVM, power (UPS/PDU), patch panel and blank panel – make every rack readable at a glance. The mapping is adjustable without any code change.
  5. Full-depth devices and both faces: Devices can occupy the front, the rear or the full depth of the rack – conflicts between the two faces are detected automatically.
  6. Export & documentation: Export any rack as a PNG image or SVG vector for data-centre documentation, handovers or change requests.
  7. Fully integrated: Own navigation item with rack overview, edit dialog and preview widget on the rack record, German and English interface – delivered as a sandboxed package with no code changes to your system.
